Archived: Muslim New Year of 1435 begins

Crescentwatch has confirmed that the new crescent moon (hilal) of Muharram has been sighted on Monday evening (Nov. 4th) in numerous locations around the world, including throughout North America.

This marks the beginning of the sacred month of Muharram, and the opening of the new Muslim (hijri) year of 1435. (The very blessed day of Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, will fall on Thursday, November 14th.)

* Crescentwatch.org adheres to the traditional principle that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on the confirmed, verifiable sighting of the new crescent moon.
